Dear Dirigo Member,

UPDATED 12/5/22

Beginning of last week (week of November 28th, 2022), Dirigo Federal Credit Union and its members experienced a brute force BIN Attack, or Bank Identification Number Attack, on our institution’s debit cards. A BIN Attack targets debit card numbers only, not account numbers, nor targets personal identification information.

How does this occur? When fraudsters use sophisticated software to search for a BIN randomly (the first six numbers of a debit card) and execute unlimited guesses until a transaction is processed.

This attack is not a breach, hack, or compromise of our IT infrastructure or security systems. Dirigo invests heavily in our IT infrastructure and security, and we take innumerable actions on any given day to protect your accounts against security risks.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our employees review all impacted accounts.

Please call us at 1-800-281-5435 to report any unauthorized transactions on your account.
